It’s been 11 meetings since Everton won the Merseyside Derby, but that’s what they’ll try to do when Liverpool visit Goodison Park on Monday.
That streak dates back to 2010, when Everton won at home 2-0. The Toffees could make it two consecutive wins after a midweek win over Arsenal, which would take them up to seventh in the table.
Liverpool currently sit third in the table, and may see Daniel Sturridge return to action in this match. Sturridge is dealing with a calf injury, but Jurgen Klopp has hinted at his involvement. Sturridge has killed Everton in recent appearances, scoring four goals in his last five Merseyside Derbys.
Everton will be without Phil Jagielka, who is serving a one-match suspension. Joel Matip and Emre Can are still banged up for Liverpool, but Can might return from a knee injury that has caused him to miss two games.
One of the oldest rivalries in the sport, Monday will mark the 227th Merseyside Derby in all competitions. Liverpool lead the series 74-57, with 63 draws along the way. The past four previous Derbys at Goodison Park have all ended in draws, including a 3-3 classic in 2013.
