‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Season 9 Guest Judges
Season 9 of RuPaul’s Drag Race is in session, with RuPaul and Michelle Visage returning as the official judges. Throughout the season, guest judges appear on each episode and they are almost always familiar faces in the entertainment industry. For 2017, there are 19 guest judges in the mix, with pop stars, comedians, models and actors. Poet Lisa Robertson and model Joan Smalls are just a couple of the guest judges this season. Thirteen drag queens are competing this season for the title of “America’s Next Drag Superstar” and the show will air Fridays on VH1 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Originally, the show was a staple on the LOGO TV network, but it has officially moved to VH1. In an interview with the Huffington Post, RuPaul spoke about switching networks, saying: We’ve had a great time at Logo. Logo has been so good for us and allowed us to be ourselves, so in my heart Logo will always be a part of ‘Drag Race.’ I think the move to VH1 really reflects the broadening of our audience. As for Pamela Post, the Senior Vice President of Programming and Original Development at Logo, she assures viewers: I think as a fan you’ll watch it and you’ll see the context of the show has not changed, the jokes haven’t changed, the point of view has not changed. I think all of that is very much intact. And that’s what we love about it – it’s point of view and humor and take on the world. And especially RuPaul’s point of view. So I think at the end of the day it’s just about exposing it to a larger group of people and hoping its fan base increases.
