I am a supporter of PMB government and also its critic. I am not a “beeni sir” (yes man) person. There have been occasions when even my daughter had called me to order on domestic issues. Unfortunately, some of us, because of our fundamentalist support for the government, we are ready to destroy other arms of government, which in our estimation, are constituting stumbling blocks to the executive. We blackmail other arms of government with the usual “corruption is fighting back”. We pretend to be democrats but in actual fact, we prefer executive dictatorship. If the legislature asserts its independence, they are corrupt. If the judiciary gives a ruling/judgment that we don’t like, they have been compromised. But if the executive goes after the other two arms through arm-twisting tactics, we applaud them. Do we actually want democracy or military rule? Do we want to be ruled with martial laws? Then, let’s abolish the National Assembly and let the government rule by Decrees with ouster clauses against he judiciary. The American judiciary cut Donald Trump to size over his executive orders in respect of travel bans and we applaud it. But here, once the judiciary gives a judgment that we don’t like, it has been compromised, even when there are appellate steps to be taken and even when we don’t even have the facts of the cases. Bode George was convicted by the High court, the court of appeal affirmed it but the Supreme court quashed it. Does that mean the Supreme court was compromised because you don’t like Bode George? Justice Taiwo Taiwo unfroze the account of Fayose based on the facts before him. But some people denigrated him because they don’t like Fayose. Things are not done like that. The ECOWAS court ordered the FG to pay Dasuki damages for unlawful detention. Was the ECOWAS court also compromised? Why do we destroy institutions when we don’t agree with certain decisions? I am a supporter of this government and want it to succeed and in doing that, we should not destroy it by leading it to a blind alley. Those who led Buhari into such blind alley in 1984-1985 are not the ones being criticised today over the failings of that time but Buhari himself. The same thing would happen in years to come. May Buhari succeed and in doing that, l will not stop shouting where l feel he is losing it. May God help us.
