Boko Haram bombers attacked Cameroon and Nigeria on Friday morning and Thursday night respectively, leaving another trail of bloodshed, and disproving repeated claims by the West and Central African leaders that Abubakar Shekau’s men have been defeated.
In Cameroon, a twin-suicide bombing rocked the locality of Mora on Friday morning. There were three deaths and two injured. Mora is located in Cameroon’s far north along the border with Nigeria.
Both suicide bombers and a civilian were among the dead, reported Cameroonian newspaper, L’Oeil du Sahel. The newspaper said a manhunt had been launched for two more bombers.
In Nigeria, the failed attack took place on Thursday night when three male suicide-bombers were killed while attempting to attack a female hostel in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
Newswire, PRNigeria, reported that one of the three suicide-bombers carried an AK 47 gun. At least two bombs exploded during the attack.
A newspaper quoted, a student leader in the university, Abu Hanifa Babati, as confirming that one of the explosions occurred around the female BOT Hostel while another explosion occurred around the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
An emergency worker involved in the evacuation was quoted as saying that “four security men in the university, including volunteers were treated for injury they sustained as no life was lost except the killed suicide bombers.”
Boko Haram has killed tens of thousands of people in Nigeria and Cameroon, kidnapped thousands and displaced millions.
Regional leaders have continued to expect assistance from the international community to tackle the Boko Haram insurgency but on Thursday, the spokesman of the Pentagon, Captain Jeff Davis, told a press conference that the focus of the President Donald Trump administration is to increase the capabilities of African nations to tackle the terrorists themselves.
