The category of “true crime” has certainly garnered attention over the past year, and Discovery’s latest foray into the hunt for the Unabomber is no exception. Manhunt: Unabomber, an eight-episode miniseries, will premiere tight on Discovery at 9pm ET/PT.
The series will provide an in-depth look at how FBI profiler Jim “Fitz” Fitzgerald (played by Sam Worthington) was able to track down Ted Kaczynski, who quickly came to be known as the Unabomber.
During his killing spree between 1978 and 1995, the Unabomber killed 3 people and injured 23 others. He led a mail bombing campaign that targeted people involved in a variety of modern technologies.
Kaczynski is considered a child prodigy, and was accepted to Harvard at age 16. He earned his BA in 1962, and at 25, he earned his doctorate and worked as an assistant professor at the Berkeley.
The miniseries has received positive reviews from critics. CNN describes it as a “gipping account” of a hunt for a killer that’s “feature-film quality from the casting on down”, and Collider says it’s a “taught, fast-paced thriller that jumps back and forth in time to explore the many facets (and frustrations) of the investigation.”
