Curry is teed off Thursday at 8:55 a.m. PT and is currently in the midst of playing his first pro round. Steph Curry Round 1 Score & Highlights From Ellie Mae Classic
Through 4: +2
Curry, who started on the back nine, saw the first shot of his professional career fly well wide of the fairway:
Curry’s first tee shot actually came to rest in cup holder in golf cart. Yep, he’s a ridiculous long-distance shooter.

He ultimately settled with a bogey on No. 10 to open his round, but it could have been a lot worse if not for a nice chip from off the green to set up a tap-in:
On No. 11, Curry knocked down a nice putt to save par:
After a par on No. 12, Curry was tied with his playing partners–defending champ Stephan Jaegar and No. 2 on the money-list Sam Ryder–through three holes. Another errant tee shot on No. 13, however, put him in trouble near the cart path:
He would ultimately bogey that hole.

Compared to the general population, Curry is a very good player, sporting a 2 handicap. Compared to professional golfers, Curry isn’t quite as impressive. He was pegged by oddsmakers as a 9-to-1 underdog to even make the cut, and even he admitted he’ll need to basically be perfect for two rounds if he’s going to make it to the weekend.
“I’m staying realistic,” said Curry. “First goal is just to get off the first tee on Thursday. If I can do that, I’ll be off and running. These guys dedicate their life to the game and are grinding every week to make it to the PGA Tour, so I understand how hard it is out here. Myself as a casual professional golfer in my head, not in real life, I just want to have fun, make some birdies.”
Over on the PGA Tour, Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy and all of the world’s top players are competing in the WGC-Bridgestone, but one of the biggest stories in the sports world will be coming out of the Web.com Tour. Even if Curry doesn’t ultimately approach the cut line, this is nonetheless a great thing for golf.
