The Nigerian military has vowed that it will sustain its land
and air operations in the North-East until the Boko Haram and the
Islamic State West Africa Province terrorists are defeated.

The military, through the Multi-National Joint Task Force,
stated this on Tuesday, noting that an ongoing operation, Yacin
Tafki, had brought desperation and internal crisis to
terrorists.

The MNJTF comprised forces from Nigeria, Niger, Chad and
Cameroon.

The Chief of Military Public Information, Col Timothy Antigha,
said the Force was aware that there was internal crisis among the
terrorists as the ISWAP “announced the sack of a former Boko Haram
leader, Abu Al Barnawi, and the appointment of Abdullahi Al
Barnawi.”

The military spokesman said the frequent execution of Boko Haram
commanders and fighters during Operation Yacin Tafki led to the
sect’s inability to replenish stranded fighters in the Lake Chad
area of Borno State with food, drugs and weapons.

Antigha said, “As an aftermath of sustained air and land
operations, information from captured Boko Haram fighters indicate
that the leadership of Boko Haram terror network is currently in
disarray.

“An integral part of Operation Yancin Tafki has been a series of
well-coordinated day and night intelligence, surveillance and
reconnaissance missions conducted by the Nigerian Air Force and air
forces of Chad, Cameroon and Niger.

“These air missions helped to destroy Boko Haram logistic
facilities and fighters in Tumbum Gini, Arege, Tumbun Rego and
Dagaya areas between last Thursday and Monday. During this
operation, about 70 Boko Haram gun trucks and operational vehicles
as well as weapons were destroyed.”
