Lagos Chief Judge promises ICT-driven judiciary – TheNigerialawyer

The Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba, has
promised increased use of information and communications technology
tools in the administration of justice in the state.

Alogba said he would ensure a judiciary compliant with
international best practices.

He spoke on Wednesday during his swearing-in as the 17th Chief
Judge of Lagos State, a statement said.

Alogba, who had been presiding over the affairs of the state
judiciary in acting capacity since June 13, was confirmed on
Tuesday as substantive chief judge by the Lagos State House of
Assembly following ratification by the National Judicial
Council.

He was sworn in at a ceremony attended by Governor Babajide
Sanwo-Olu and his executive council, while the Speaker, Mudashir
Obasa, led members of the legislative arm to the programme.

The chief judge said his tenure would witness the transformation
of the judiciary.

“In performing my duties, I shall key into the vision of the
Governor Sanwo-Olu administration in ensuring that we have a smart
judiciary by providing first class judicial services in line with
international best practices.

“We will be deploying more tools of information and
communications technology in the provision of our services.
In-video conferencing of court proceedings has already started and
we will be doing more in this area,” he added.

Sanwo-Olu said his government would strengthen the relationship
between the executive and the judiciary without eroding
impartiality and independence of the courts.

He pledged to support the judiciary to provide the needs of
judicial officers and discourage people from recoursing to
self-help.
