Supreme Court ruling: Ohanaeze appeals to Imo residents to remain calm

The Youth Wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo on Thursday appealed to
residents of Imo, especially youths, to remain calm over the
Supreme Court judgment on the governorship election in the
state.

The apex court had in a unanimous seven-man-panel judgment on
Tuesday quashed the election of Chief Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples
Democratic Party as governor of Imo State and declared Hope
Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress the validly elected
Governor.

Reacting to the political development in Imo, the National Youth
Leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Arthur Obiora, said regardless of
what happened whether right or wrong the interest of Imo people and
residents must be sacrosanct.

He, however, urged the present administration in the state to
live up to the people’s expectations and fulfill his electioneering
campaign promises to the people.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing is asking for calmness in the whole
of Imo State.

“We may not agree with the Supreme Court’s judgment but we are
duty-bound as law-abiding and responsible citizens to accept
it.

“We ask the new government to ensure that it keeps her campaign
promises made to the good people of Imo State at the end of the
day.

“Ohanaeze believes that good governance is all about bringing
dividends of democracy to the people. And the very best of good
governance is what the peace-loving people and residents of Imo
State want now,’’ he said.
